The history of aerial bombardment can be divided into four periods. The First World War saw the birth of the bomber that experienced rapid evolution, pressured from events.
The interwar period was a turning point between design, the craft airline industry, and the race for technological innovations. The weight of the tragedy left by World War I, had long blocked the technological progress.
World War II saw the triumph of the bomber in all aspects of its mission: the assault of strategic bombing raids through by way of submarines or ships … But at the end of the conflict, the outbreak of atomic weapons would change the very concept of bombing. The fourth period began on the balance of terror leaving major strategic bombers of the Cold War.
Today, at the turn of the century, the great bomber is mostly seen as a platform missile launcher and the classic bombing is now over, now entrusted to aircraft specifically designed for this mission. The time of the drone has come…
