Grumman's F-14 Tomcat, synonymous with the famous 80s movie Top Gun, remains arguably the US Navy's most iconic fighter. The twin-engine, twin-tail, swept-wing interceptor served for more than three decades from 1974 through to 2006 (and it continues to fly in Iranian hands). In its day it was one of the most advanced combat aircraft in the world, alongside the F-15, F-16 and F/A-18. Over the years the type has worn many striking and colourful schemes - and these are depicted here in glorious detail in the artworks of aviation artist Mads Bangso.
