The war of 1914-1918 immediately evokes images of the trenches of the Western front where the conflict raged, but this was only one facet of the overall conflagration. This complex conflict shook the world in three dimensions: air war; land war in the Balkans, Italy, Turkey, and the Middle East; but also naval war in the Atlantic, the South Pacific, and the Indian Oceans.
