Following the defeat in the Guadalcanal campaign, at the beginning of 1943, the Navy Technical Department and The High Command of the Imperial Japanese Navy strived to increase the defensive potential of all their warships. Apart from standard refits of the majority of the Imperial Japanese Navy units, a plan was adopted, which called for reconstruction of two “Takao” class heavy cruisers into anti-aircraft units. Through a coincidence only the Maya underwent such conversion. This publication shows the cruiser in her anti-aircraft configuration and briefly describes her career.
“This book will be of great interest to naval historians and plastic modelers alike. Highly recommended.”
~AMPS Indianapolis
“If you plan to build the IJN Maya in its 1944 AA fit (which practically all the available kits in any scale depict) then this is the only resource you would need. If you have already built Maya then you had better not look too closely at your efforts - after seeing this book you will want to accurize… Highest recommendation for building this ship and as a reference for universal IJN warship fittings in general.”
~IPMS/USA
“The colours and details are ideal references for modellers interested in the ships of the IJN generally, not only the Maya itself. Also tucked inside the pages of the book is a large, separate, fold-out sheet which has multi-view plans of the ship in 1/350 scale. Another fine addition to this series from Kagero.”

“Any of these would be a perfect gift for a model maker (which Goralski is), so complete is the coverage of each subject's visual appearance.”
~Army Rumour Service
"There are more than 70 pages of stunning 3D digital images…This is an excellent package and will be invaluable for anyone building Maya."
